New finds of lacertids (Sauria, Lacertidae) from the Neogene of Slovakia and Czech Republic

Abstract
In the present paper, first finds of fossil lacertids from the Neogene of Slovakia and new finds from Czech Republic are described. The material comes from three localities: Merkur - North (Czech Republic, Early Miocene), Borský Svätý Jur (Slovakia, Late Miocene) and Ivanovce (Slovakia, Early Pliocene), and consists of several isolated dentaries, maxillae and one vertebra. According to the morphology, the find of dentary from the Ivanovce locality can be attributed to Lacerta cf. agilis. Except one vertebra, the rest of the material can be assigned to Lacerta sp. The fragment of the anterior portion of the dentary from the Upper Miocene sediments of Borský Svätý Jur represents the oldest known occurrence of this taxon in Slovakia. Thus, the material enhances our rather poor knowledge of the palaeoherpetofauna from the Slovakian territory.
