Abstract

Quaternary and Neogene sediments in the western part of Gabčíkovo depression which are located in the eastern agglomeration of Bratislava were the principal scope of this study. A database of boreholes was created as a first step and contains information on sedimentary structures of Upper Miocene, Pliocene, and Quaternary deposits. The database contains 752 boreholes data obtained from published and archival sources. The criteria were formulated how to separate lacustrine deposits dated to Neogene and the Quaternary sediments. Main results, besides of boreholes database, are maps of Quaternary sediments thickness and map of buried Neogene deposits surface. According to the nature of the surface of Neogene sediments, two territories of different slope gradient have been defined. Different slope gradients are interpreted as a result of different Quaternary vertical movement rates. In the area of alluvial terrace, which is a territory of lower slope gradient, depression lines and concentric depressions were described.
