Abstract

This work is focused on microfacies analysis of the Upper Triassic Hallstatt limestones occurring at the locality "Trench" – a section of the Silicic Unit near the Silická Brezová village. Classical methods of limestones study are amended by statistical methods. The section studied is built of Tuvalian to Sevatian sediments, i.e. upper parts of the Tisovec (Waxeneck) Limestone, Hallstatt and Dachstein limestones (the paper is focused mainly to the Hallstatt Limestone). They are developed in facies of bedded bioclastic limestones of greyish-pink and brick-red colour with signs of nodularity. These limestones sedimented mainly in open shelf environment communicating with deep water environment during the sedimentation.
