How our engineering geology has become a scientific discipline

Abstract

Author knowledgeably describes the history of the development of Engineering Geology in Slovakia in the second half of the 20^th century, the stages of converting of the former "building geology" to a modern scientific discipline, as a part of the geological sciences. The article briefly characterizes the basic questions and methodological pillars of scientific research, its organizational forms united under the State Plan of Basic Research, as well as transfer of the results to practical applications.
